Mental Health / Human ServicesAllegheny County Department of Human Services The Department of Human Services is comprised of five program offices: Children Youth and Families, Area Agency on Aging, Community Services, Behavioral Health, Mental Retardation, Developmental Disabilities. Located in South Oakland, at 374 Lawn Street, CHS provides many services including an after school program for kids, child care food program, inexpensive lunches, housing services and health services. Nurses are available. Contact for more information.
Peoples Oakland operates a psychosocial rehabilitation and community supports program for adult residents of Allegheny County (ages 18-65) with serious mental illness. Peoples Oakland programs are designed for adults who experience disabilities from severe and persistent mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and major mood disorders (schizo-affective disorder, major depression and bi-polar disorder). Services are free of charge for those who qualify. 3433 Bates Street PVS offers many services of people who are blind or have very poor vision. PVS offers rehabilitation, vocational training, community and support services, and community education. Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic Provides a range of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services. Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, please refer them to this center. The 24-hour hotline number is 412-687-8005. There is also a 24-hour emergency shelter that offers a range of services including medical and legal help, counseling, and support groups. |
